The tallest peak in the Western Cape — genuinely big mountain flying, safe only in the lightest winds given the scale of the ravines carved into the massif. Best suited to experienced pilots in thermic conditions.

Numerous — the north-side ravine carries real rotor risk off the northern spine, and boulder-strewn slopes leave few landing options beyond a 4x4 trail. This is remote terrain; any incident here means a long, difficult rescue.
Launch & landing
Southeast and northeast launches sit beside the upper trig beacon; a north launch is available from the highest saddle in light wind, or lower down where the 4x4 trail briefly climbs. The summit sits at 2284m ASL with a 2900m ceiling. Landing options are in the Hex River Valley (southeast side), the farmland beside the Touwsrivier/Ceres road (northeast), or the Matroosberg farm itself (north).
Access
Via Wellington, Bain's Kloof Pass and Mitchell's Pass to Ceres, then farm roads toward the Matroosberg Nature Reserve.
